Neon Dreams – Stardust

A beautifully fragile new dream gaze single was released by alternative pop outfit Neon Dreams. Once I started listening to the lyrics and read the story behind the song the tears started filling my eyes. Its subtle delivery, warm and almost spoken vocals, and intricate soundscape tell the story of loving someone you love. Inspiration came after several encounters between Neon Dreams and their fans, during which they were told how much their music meant to friends and family and those that had passed away.

“The next day, as I was heading to Sunset Studios in Stellenbosch, I thought about something a friend told me. She said, “We’re all made of the same things stars are made of. We are stardust.”

‘Stardust’ is comforting, and feels like a warm hug from a loved one, either one who’s still roaming the earth, or one who’s stardust… It is the emotional delivery, and the warmth within its message, that make ‘Stardust’ an exquisite and poetic piece of pop. ‘Stardust’ helps us mourn, and celebrate the ones we’ve lost, because as a traveler once said: “Energy never dies when our bodies go back into the earth. We become one with it. Parts of us go into the trees that bring us fruit, we go back into the water, we become a part of the air. So no matter what you do, the people you love are always with you.”
