A sound that is mysterious and eccentric, distorted and divine, was created and released by Aleesha Dibbs. The multi-instrumentalist just released debut solo EP ‘Paradise Lost’ and it’s the soundtrack to our weirdest and wildest dreams. It’s a seductive and distinct sound that builds upon hazy vocals and transformative electro and synth rock sounds.
“‘Paradise Lost’ challenges the expectation that change and growth are supposed to feel good. We make difficult decisions in desperate circumstances, and stride forward with an expectation that small celebrations of hope and agency will hold our hands and carry the weight of the phantom limbs that never leave us.”
The EP is a four-track counting short story driven by those ever rambling elements that ripple through all four songs like a red thread. Ever evolving vocals and a soft shimmering soundscape make ‘Distance’ one of our favourite chapters of this rollercoaster ride. The EP was produced and engineered by Tom Crandles and mixed by Kim Moyes, a collaboration that has given us an experimental and introspective sound different from any other we’ve heard so far.
It’s captivatingly raw, rough around the edges, building on the feeling of unfinished demos without sounding unfinished. A soft voice and a warm, subtly thumping soundscape make ‘Conjured You Up’ and the closer of the EP, ‘Comin For Me Now’, such beautifully haunting yet comforting songs! Aleesha Dibbs created a sonically powerful piece of art that is still echoing in our head, not a sound we would usually get pulled towards, but a beautifully impressive one nonetheless.
