modernlove. at TRUCK: next up… Wembley?!

On Friday afternoon we saw modernlove. bounce about in front of an overjoyed and filled to the brim Market Stage at TRUCK Fest. Their energy and infectious songs turned us into fans, and we were lucky enough to catch the band after their set for a conversation and to learn more on what went on before their set and what will be going down after!

The story on how the band decided on their name is a sweet, a heartwarming one, “we were watching How I Met Your Mother and the last episode ends with the song ‘This Modern Love’ by Bloc Party and that song and feeling felt very fitting to what we want to be as a band.” The inspiration did come at 3am after about ten cans of beer, but that doesn’t make it less lovely!

The band have toured the US, and the UK, sold out shows and played a few festivals already, with more on the calendar. Part of their success comes from their team of hard working professionals such as manager Maya and tour manager Fran, who give them advice and guidance. “We are very lucky with the team we have, who allow us to do what we want to do and help give us some direction.”

“A high of being on the road is playing in front of people that hopefully resonate with the music we make, and a low is the lack of sleep, and money, it’s very taxing. So both high and low are touring!” Being a musician is tiring as well as exciting, and I think it’s important we talk about the hardships of it too, it’s not all just fun and games… “I did not get any sleep as we got on the 2am ferry from Ireland and it was only a 3 hour trip so we couldn’t get a hut. I was quite anxious and nervous about not being able to play properly.” I couldn’t imagine the nerves just before performing a sold out festival…

modernlove. don’t have any set pre-gig rituals but they do drink lots of Red Bull! “We have Red Bull before the show, gets us all hyped up and jittery, because this was definitely the biggest crowd we played in front of.” Only a band of friends would be able to make it this far, sharing small spaces for long amounts of time, and being away from home. “The reason we work well together is also because we respect each other’s space and boundaries, I could not do this with anyone else.” “But I do wish you would give me less space sometimes!” A sleep-deprived singer is clearly longing for a hug!

The band will be staying the night at TRUCK, with two of them sharing a tent and two sleeping in their van, those they will be catching are Two Door Cinema Club, Deadletter, and they would have caught Irish artist Cherym would she not have been earlier on the day! “After TRUCK we’ll be heading to Live at Leeds and Latitude, which are this weekend, and we’ve got new music and a UK tour coming up!” We will of course update you on their new releases and you can find their upcoming live dates below!
