On Thursday we enter a still clean TRUCK Festival site filled with sort of sober music-lovers that are ready to conquer four days and a line-up filled to the brim with musical acts big and small. We start our day with the infectious art pop of Cat Ryan on the This Feeling stage! They’re a young band from the north east that are – similar to us – pleasantly surprised by a great turnout early Thursday evening. Their infectious art rock has clearly garnered some attention as we see lots of people bopping and singing along. Next up for the indie band are Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival ánd Y Not!
Last time we saw Dead Pony perform it was for less than 150 people in a pub in Stockton, this time their singer parades the stage like its hers and my does she know how to entice her audience. Rambling rock riffs colour their sound and made for an incredible live set that even had some of us moshing!

We can’t love it all, sad to say that Swim Deep did not sweep us off our feet when they performed their eccentric art pop sound on the mainstage. Feedback through the sound system didn’t help either, luckily Holy Youth Movement soon makes us remember why we are at TRUCK and its smaller stages. They play the This Feeling stage and their audience with an incredible live set, grand rock sounds and loud, shouting vocals. When the singer enters the audience they well and truly cement their space on our lists of highlights at TRUCK!
Thursday’s headliners are The Wombats, with a pocket full of smash hits and on their set list they’re an easy crowd pleaser. We all cheered and sang along to their hits, but unfortunately the band had a hard time keeping the audience’s attention for their lesser known songs. This one was a set of individual songs with breaks slightly too long, but hey, in the end we all danced to Joy Division and ended the first day of Truck Fest on a high!
