TRUCK Day 3 started with rain which turned the entire festival into a giant puddle of mud within no time. Rain and muddy shoes don’t bother the real festival goer though, and that is the right attitude because today’s programme is filled with more incredible artists!
We have to find the positive in all the negative, and today that is; tents. So yes, Supersaurus had the British weather to thank for a chocka tent for their set, but they also played a blinder. Their powerful alt rock, thundering drum rolls and gritty riffs made for a beautiful opener of TRUCK Saturday… And they kept us dry!
Stunning vocals make us aware of what is going on at the This Feeling stage. Theatrical rock outfit SANTÚ are playing in front of an eager crowd and bring a gorgeously calculated rock sound that is like no other. You could say that SANTÚ were quite the pleasant surprise.
One of the incredible artists on today’s line-up is Deadletter, who’ve got a good live reputation and once again showed this at The Market Stage where they gave 30 minutes of pure energy. Deadletter are completely and utterly possessed and I think it’s contagious… Not that I mind! Their set also included a couple of new songs that sounded just as good as the ones we’re already familiar with, we can’t wait for their debut album!

When Calum Bowie entered the main stage around 3pm it was softly drizzling, luckily for Calum that didn’t keep the people away. This very young artist performed his very catchy pop songs which sounded a bit like Luke La Volpe who performed on Friday. Calum however brought more energy and enthusiasm which left his audience with a smile on their face.
A band that’s never failed us live before is King No One and on TRUCK they do so once again. Infectious and loud indie rock with a charismatic singer make for a thrilling live show that brightens up our day despite the rain! Some others we witnessed during the day were English Teacher, Courting and The Beths. English Teacher brought a bunch of indie mixed with post-punk songs, and got a great singer in Lily Fontaine. Courting knows how to put on a show and they literally got the entire crowd jumping up and down. They must know how much we miss the old Britpop sound and here they are giving us a Britpop revival.
NZ outfit The Beths weren’t the most exciting ones to watch and played their pop rock songs neat and tidy, which was good enough for their fans that came to see them. We were intrigued enough by their sound to try and catch them live again, and hopefully that’ll be the case for some others too!
We return to the Truck Stage for our headliners; DMA’S! They’re always a guarantee for success, especially on the festival greens, it must be one of the reasons it’s the band’s third time at TRUCK! The Aussie’s setlist is filled with golden oldies such as ‘Delete’ and ‘Lay Down’ and includes single ‘Thursday’s The Weekend’ and a cover of Cher’s ‘Believe’, all favourites!

Our last act on TRUCK’s Saturday are Squid who show off their experimental and weird side, being undeniably and unapologetically unique while performing their eccentric rock songs. They’ve got a great crowd and treat them to a set filled with weird lyrics, hammering drums, and tooting horns. A band so very musically skilled and a great addition to the TRUCK line-up! A worthy end of this festival day, with our biggest challenge being being able to find our tent on a very muddy and slippery field… But for the music, we conquer it all.
