‘Vapor Kills’ is the brand new one by Rare Monk and talks about coming to the realisation that city life skills do not translate to being able to survive in the wilderness. It is quite the apt subject and the band have translated this message into a powerful indie rock song.
“The digital age has brought people many comforts, maybe too many comforts, so if and when things go to shit, will you be able to survive?”
This hazy alt rock sound is a soft and soothing, comforting one with its sweet vocals and warm, supportive soundscape. The song, which ended up on the ‘Coronation’ EP, was written at the end of 2019 and interestingly the song seems more apt now then at the time it was written. “The uncertainty and problems aren’t gone, we’ve just acclimated to them.”
The Portland-based indie rock outfit have created and honed a sound that is an almost untouchable one, thin and angelic, dream-like. With eclectic soundscapes and a few raw riffs, they colour their songs and give them a hint of rock, just enough to scratch that itch and create a very intriguing sound!
