Sarah Johnsone – Sofia

Newcastle-based fast rising indie rock artist Sarah Johnsone has returned with the release of infectious new track ‘Sofia’! The fast paced shoegaze rock track is driven by her crisp voice and subtle vocal harmonies. With hints at surf the song listens like the waves and is a constant surprise due to its thrilling rhythm-changes and warm bass lines. Add a gripping guitar solo and ‘Sofia’ truly explores all sides of Johnsone’s musical vocabulary.

About her latest release, Sarah said: “‘Sofia’ is my indie rock party track; she’s fun, she’s exciting, she’s unpredictable. ‘Sofia’ represents many who are misunderstood by the male social structures around them, frequently feeling bored and dismayed in pursuit of romance. This track was one of the first I’ve written from a third person, storytelling perspective. It bore a story of the misunderstood and perennially addictive ‘cool’ girl, and the cookie cutter male chasers that can’t seem to get enough.”

The Stockton-born, genre-bending BBC Introducing-tipped singer and songwriter hooked us when she performed with her band at Mosaic Tap in Newcastle. On the 8th of September she will return to the stage, this time at Head Of Steam, for her own headline show! We’ll be honing in on ‘Sofia’s lyrics, hoping to be able to sing along to the song next month.
