EP: MISSIO – I Am High

MISSIO is the Texas-based duo made up of Matthew Brue and David Butler, the two have just released an EP bursting of flavour and energy, ‘I Am High’ is a genre-bending mix of alternative, electronic, rock and hip hop!

The duo managed to bring six tracks in less than twenty minutes and bring depths of emotions to the surface in the form of their ethereal sound. “Feelings of sadness, numbness, and happiness correspond to subsets of songs as the entire body of work replicates the complete breadth of existence.” Their ‘Good Vibrations’ radiates through our speakers and brings a welcome and summery alternative indie sound.

‘Easy’ is a soft contemporary song, contemplating life and love, supported by a softly thumping soundscape. For ‘Thang Thang’, they collaborated with DEADFOOT, which gives the song and the EP a different dimension. A fully computer-driven sound is not what we would usually listen to, but it’s impossible not to move along to the track!

The indie and alternative rock influences have completely floated to the background on their song with Jelani Blackman. And to be honest, they’ve lost us a little there, it’s just a matter of personal taste! ‘Papi Chulo’ gives us something to hold on to, being a more rhythmic and infectious sound. ‘I’m Coming Home’ is a beautifully fragile indie ballad that brings us straight back into this EP. MISSIO have created something entirely their own, unique, and outstanding, in its very own form.

On the EP, Matthew said: “With this music, I’d love to make people think a little bit. People find it scary to talk about their feelings, but we hope we can get you to look inward a little bit. It’s okay to get high. It’s okay to be human.”
