October Round Up

DEADSET – BLEAK

A frantic and chaotic new alternative rock track was released by DEADSET, their latest is the new wave-esque, grand and punching ‘BLEAK’. The band was formed just last year, their sound since having been moulded into a claustrophobic, gritty and tense rock sound. Their latest encapsulates the bands’ existing and what they would like to achieve from it. They grew up in an area rife with boredom and people that are stuck in cycles of binge drinking and substance abuse. “Deadset became a band because we wanted to escape that cycle, dream of something better and create new horizons for ourselves. It’s our own escape from the depressing reality around here.”

Sam Drysdale – Love & Violence

Beautifully sharp and rough-around-the-edges vocals bring us ‘Love & Violence’, the voice belonging to singer songwriter Sam Drysdale. His latest is a soft alternative pop song about a romantic relationship where both parties have become more concerned with their own individual perspective, “opposed to the pursuit of a more selfless, wholesome definition of love”. Open- and warm-hearted, beautiful and soothing, the song is a gorgeous and musical story!

Fleece – Stay At Home Boy

A new and thumping pop track was released by Fleece, their latest is ‘Stay At Home Boy’ and it is a refreshing mix of influences taken from indie pop and rock with sharp and powerful vocals in its midst. The Montreal-based LGBTQ indie outfit are changing up their sound and created a more electronically-driven soundscape on their latest. It is a charging and driving track hard not to vibe along to and a great addition to their musical catalogue!

Francisco Sola – Use & Dispose

Beautifully charming, warm-hearted and driven by softly spoken vocals are what make ‘Use & Dispose’ such as a refined alternative pop track with a hint of hazy folk. Francisco Sola brought us his new release this month and with that brings a gently shimmering, atmospheric soundscape that is the perfect soundtrack for this colourful autumn. We are hoping for more soft folk pop sounds from Sola soon!

Pa Sheehy – Wretched

A soft and hazy new sound with a beautiful voice comes to us in the form of Pa Sheehy’s ‘Wretched’. Its warm intro has a comforting sound and brings colour to our playlists, spoken vocals and a subtle soundscape make the song a simple yet refined and tasteful one. His latest indie pop release is in line with a previous release that made us fall head over heels in love with Pa Sheehy’s sound. ‘Wretched’ is similar yet different to ‘Meet Me At The Record Store’, both build dramatically towards a beautifully emotive crescendo, and we can’t get enough.

Call Us Janis – The Greatest

I wasn’t entirely sure about ‘The Greatest’s Twenty One Pilot-esque intro, until its undeniably infectious rhythm kicked in and I simply couldn’t stop myself from grooving along. Call Us Janis’ latest is a great and vibing indie synth pop track with a refined build up and subtle vocals. The song radiates excitement and confidence and made me curious about the rest of the band’s musical catalogue! By racing to their Spotify they confirmed their other tracks are nearly as infectious, but ‘The Greatest’ truly does stay… The greatest!

Emil Landman – Our Love

A soft and hazy autumnal folk pop song was released by Dutch artist Emil Landman. His latest is ‘Our Love’, an ode to pursuing your deepest passions and embracing the vibrant moments that electrify your soul. His soulful pop sound is what electrifies our soul, with his soft voice in its midst, and a subtle soundscape dressing the song and decorating his musical catalogue. Wandering hooks and easy to remember lyrics make the song our new soundtrack for this season!

The Sarandons – The Great Divide

A tongue-in-cheek track was released by The Sarandons, its intro resembling the sound The Cure introduced to us, vocals even slightly resembling those of Robert Smith. Yet ‘The Great Divide’ is nothing like a The Cure track, it’s eclectic collection of influences bring a hazy blues rock track driven by introverted guitar riffs and subtle drum rolls. It is a soaring one, passionate, with poetic lyrics and a soft and ever-building build up, nothing like any other we’ve heard in the alternative rock genre so far!
