Album: The Velvet Hands – Sucker Punch (Deluxe Edition)

The Velvet Hands have released a deluxe edition of their sophomore album ‘Sucker Punch’ today on Krautpop Records!

Their second album now has its own deluxe edition including two bonus tracks, and its release coincides with a nationwide tour! Fans of the Buzzcocks, The Vaccines and Supergrass will be excited to hear The Velvet Hands’ delicious blend of slacker-rock punches and coming-of-age tales.

The band know how to introduce an album with their ’40 Up 40 Down’ being the instantly addictive alternative rock sound we long to hear on a dreary Wednesday afternoon. ‘Telephone Love’ is sharper, builds on an even more undeniably energising sound. The entire album is built on slick riffs and on ‘Holiday in My Head’ we hear influences taken from The Cure and Robert Smith’s dark voice. Those fast paced nearly frantic soundscapes make us feel like we are in the middle of a car chase scene in a heist-film.

‘The bonus tracks on ‘Fallout’ and ‘This Feeling’ are the bonus tracks on ‘Sucker Punch’, hinting at inspiration taken from new and dark wave, The Velvet Hands blend together a wild mix of genres! ‘Sucker Punch’ sings of relationships, revelry, and finding optimism in dark times and offers exactly that; a light at the end of the tunnel. Another they released as a single is ‘Meet Me in the City’, which hints at a indie rock’n’roll and it might be our favourite on the album.

They are nearing the end of their extensive UK tour with once last show in Plymouth’s Underground on the 25th of November, and a third album is planned for release early next year… Exciting times for The Velvet Hands!
