The rocking five track counting EP that was released by Superslow is a superfast and energetic cumulation of powerful anthems. ‘Mess’ opens with the unapologetic ‘Alcatraz’, a fuzzy and riffing pop track that drives the EP and its energy forward and is the perfect introduction to the band and their organised chaos of soundscapes.
The songs on ‘Mess’ are inspired by rainbows, cartoons, cold shows, and mistakes made in the bands’ twenties. The delicious riffs that open second song ‘Hello’ make up a fanatic alternative rock sound, which continues on the EP’s title track ‘Mess’. Their lead vocals are poignant, and lead us through this musical journey of rambling, screeching riffs and hazy harmonies.
‘Wake Up’ is the hazy, dreamy hint at indie pop that balances the EP and gives it a slightly softer atmosphere. Once the song ends, I feel myself still softly humming “wake up, wake up…”. The band end with slowly building ‘Parkranger’, finding a strong balanced between the loud alt rock tracks, and softer hints at indie rock. The Norwegian band bring a refreshing and uncomplicated sound to the scene and the Misfits’ playlists and I’m glad they sent us ‘Superslow’, it’s an EP I would not have wanted to miss!
