A new contemporary pop album was released by Vava Quail. His ‘Beloved Ashes’ is an eight track cumulation of hazy pop rock tracks with soft vocals and enigmatic soundscapes leading this musical journey.
‘Beloved Ashes’ is the debut album of Vava Quail, its songs made up of intimate compositions of vocals and piano sounds. The inspiration for the album came on a trip to the place where the artist grew up in rural Germany. These eccentric sounds are inspired by a feeling of alienation, where everything seems familiar yet unfamiliar at the same time. The same feeling dawns upon us when listening to ‘Beloved Ashes’, soft indie pop hooks intertwine with peculiar soundscapes that are made up of vocal loops and subtle instrumental hooks.
‘Beloved Ashes’ is a collection of contemporary pop songs with the shimmering voice of Vava Quail in its midst, memorable due to their artistic angle and unconventional compositions. The album is creatively ingenious from the beginning until the end, a creative sphere pushing boundaries and translating feelings into songs such as on ‘Calendula’ and ‘A River I Know’. On the album, Vava Quail said: “Musically, I intended to create songs that feel like lively collages of vocals and piano sounds and thought of them as chamber music.”
“I recorded the album in my bedroom in Berlin and used the sounds of my childhood and youth: the grand-piano that’s been my companion for 22 years, vocals adding up to choirs, an occasional saxophone, an occasional flute.” He brought his musical collages to life by pouring his heart and soul into ‘Beloved Ashes’ and it shows.
