December Round Up

TRUTHTELLER – Salmon

Here’s to a heavy and punching start of the new year, we start it with a throwback to this December release that is a powerful punk rock track that combines spoken with singing vocals and an enigmatic soundscape that is a surprise from the very beginning until the very end. With grand hook and fanatics drum rolls, ‘Salmon’ is nothing like the fish it is called after… The track is the perfect introduction to the spirited and driving sound of TRUTHTELLER, we are now fans.

Harry F Brown – Mahogany Man

Warm and sugar sweet alternative pop song ‘Mahogany Man’ is the latest by singer songwriter and pop artist Harry F Brown. The track resembles a sound a la Lennon and McCartney and brings those warm-hearted 60’s guitar lines and dreamy vocal harmonies. The song is uplifting and comforting, sounding like a daisy softly dancing to the wind of a summer’s day afternoon. Despite its sweet sound, the track talks about going through a break-up, a tad bittersweet if you ask us, but comforting nonetheless!

Mantocliff – centuries

Soft, sweet, intricate, it’s Mantocliff’s ‘centuries’. The singer songwriter utilises her gorgeously angelic voice and puts it at the epicentre of her soft dream pop songs. She experiments with many aspects of pop and on ‘centuries’ highlights what anthemic dream pop means. With her slowly building soundscapes she creates attractive sing songs, and draws our attention effortlessly. Hers is a painfully open, honest, yet comfortable, and above all; addictive, sound.

Belle & The Vertigo Waves – What You Wanted (ReAligned)

This fanatic and driving new rock release introduced us to Belle & The Vertigo Waves and we’re happy it did. This powerful and heavy track defies genre cubicles and builds on influences taken from the indie rock and heavy rock genres. With strong vocals and heavy hitting drums, the track is the first to introduce the bands’ upcoming EP. ‘What You Wanted’ first came out in 2017 but was too soft and sweet for the bands’ current repertoire, so here we have it; a ‘ReAligned’ version!

Big Society – December, forever

Big Society’s latest is a soft alt pop song released in aid of The Booth Centre, Manchester which is a charity helping people who have been affected by homelessness. This soft and hazy song is a beautifully comforting guitar pop track recorded as a live take with Will and Fripp playing guitar and singing together in the band’s self built shipping container studio in Manchester. Drums, bass and piano were then added to the arrangement. Here is the perfect, subtly festive introduction to Manchester’s fast evolving indie pop band!

Vilhelm Buchaus – Together

‘Together’ is the soft and theatrical, warm pop sound of Vilhelm Buchaus who created a passionate and soaring pop rock track. On his latest single he expresses the emotions surrounding a breakup in the form of grand piano arranged and thumping drum rhythms. The Swedish singer songwriter and pop rock artist has a fantastically wide vocal range colouring the lyrics he’s clearly written from the heart. Resembling a pop sound a la Tom Grennan, Buchaus brings a new dimension to the pop genre by pulling inspiration from the indie and rock genres.

Asha Jefferies – Keep My Shit Together

A hazy, angelic new single was released by Asha Jefferies, hers is ‘Keep My Shit Together’, something we hope we’ll be able to manage over the holidays… Hers is a soft pop sound with strong and wandering vocals, a soundscape being eclectic and colourful, and a hook we are still humming along to even after the song’s finished. This latest is a less sombre, carefully positive melancholic pop track testing her own bravery. “Why do I stay in the city? / With all these angry people”.

Honeysucker – Over & Over

This softly spoken, soulful indie rock song is the latest by Honeysucker, ‘Over & Over’ is a charismatic and warm track with groovy basslines and buttery smooth guitar lines layered over wandering synths. The track is an ode to the one person we just can’t quit, we’ve all got one, I know I do. The track is a refreshing take on an ever-changing love, which can sometimes be frustrating and tiring to deal with. Honeysucker translated many feelings into four and a half minutes of soft indie sounds and it is the comforting pop rock track we needed!
