Blaudzun – Summer Song

Some artists age like a fine wine and such is to say for Dutch alternative pop artist Blaudzun, who I saw for the first time live over nine years ago. With his latest, ‘Summer Song’, he shows he’s still got the magic he knew how to capture nearly a century ago.

His alternative sound is built around shimmering and keys-driven soundscapes, with his captivating and theatrical vocals at their core. Writing short stories around which he builds his melodious sounds, Blaudzun stays on top of his game and at the top of our Favourites playlist.

His latest release has a rather unusual title, but according to Blaudzun, ‘Summer Song’ is the ultimate post-Christmas song, “I’m not a magical thinker. But sometimes I think there is a causal connection between the delay of summer and the fact there are people who keep their Christmas decorations hanging until well into April without putting them away. With that foolish idea in my head, I wrote ‘Summer Song’.”
