EP: Max Frost – Shelby Ave, Pt. 1

A sonically upbeat alternative indie EP was released by Nashville-based artist Max Frost. His brand new EP is called ‘Shelby Ave, Pt. 1’ and consists of six uplifting alt pop tracks with vibrant soundscapes and his seductive voice in its midst.

‘Creep Back’, ‘Cig in the Morning’, and ‘Black Hole Love’ all have a shimmering sonic disco pop soundscape in common and bring a refreshing and light-hearted sound to the scene. The six songs on this EP were written and recorded in a house in Shelby Ave, hence its title, and came together through his unique and creative vision. A softer pop song, sounding almost like a ballad, is the hauntingly beautiful ‘The Ghost’, beautifully open, poetic, and heartfelt.

On his EP, Max said: “Most of these songs are written about something that’s melancholic or dark, but they’re still trying to land in a beautiful place without bastardising the truth. This music represents exactly how I feel about my life at this time. More than ever before, this feels like a new chapter.”

We enjoy the ethereal indie pop sounds on the EP, and aren’t so much a fan of the electronic and thumping pop sound on ‘Avalanche’, it’s quite the musical excursion from the rest of the EP, but Frost ends strong on the theatrical and keys-driven ‘Stand By Me’. On his latest EP he shows the different strings to his musical bow and introduces a soft and eclectic uplifting sound we can get used to. We’ll be keeping our eyes and ears out for part 2!
