Hello Sister – 17
Here’s a powerful anthem for us women out there, Hello Sister have released a new thumping rock track with ’17’. After ‘Tragic’, I wasn’t sure if they could replicate an absolute anthem such as that, but with ’17’ they prove they have much more to offer. A softer and less punching track, yet just as catchy, is what makes ’17’ a refreshing new alternative rock track driven by brightly shining vocals! Powerful and a tad theatrical, Hello Sister are to be added to your ones to watch list.
KAWALA – What’s Up
A soft and unhurried alternative surf pop release was brought to us by KAWALA. Their latest ins single ‘What’s Up’ and it’s truly had me slowly moving along to its infectious rhythm and soft vocals. The track is a musical surprise from start till finish, giving us a slow intro, and some deliciously soft vocal harmonies supported by its subtle soundscape. KAWALA are bringing the musical sun into my living room and I’m very grateful for that.
Marie Naffah – Loving You (Tenderly)
She’s back with an almost rocking Dylan-esque storytelling alternative soulful pop track in ‘Loving You (Tenderly)’. Led by her soulful voice and cinematic soundscapes Marie Naffah reaches another high with her latest single. The song is a theatrical and colourful track bending boundaries and outgrowing genres, this release is another example as to why more people should give the discography of Marie Naffah a chance. We truly can’t wait to experience her live again when she returns to the north east to support local songstress Elizabeth Liddle at The Lost Wanderer.
Liz Lawrence – Big Machine
An infectiously thumping rhythm kicks off Liz Lawrence’s latest alternative rock track ‘Big Machine’. Driven by her gorgeous and sultry voice, the track takes us on a journey through foggy forests and distorted drum rolls and guitar lines. This eclectic and almost alien-like sound is deliciously catchy and thunders on from the beginning until the very end, safe to say it’s very “on repeat” worthy.
VALS ALARM – Fast Bikes
A ferocious and energetic new track was released by Dutch outfit VALS ALARM (false alarm), who released pungent punk rock rack ‘Fast Bikes’. Inspired by the vocal style of Cortney Barnette, and a punchy and fast paced, organised chaos-like sound a la IDLES, VALS ALARM do get their inspirations from some of our favourite artists and have created a captivating track that is easy to remember and scream along to – we’re already doing it… “MY BIKE IS FASTER THEN YOURS!”
Corella – Head Underwater
A refreshing and catchy new indie rock track was released by Corella, the indie rock band have created another mesmerising track with warm vocals taking us on a musical journey from high to low to an incredibly infectious chorus that’s already stuck in my head! The thunderous track takes starts and only stops once it’s finished, there’s no time for standing still when listening to the latest piece of work from the fast rising indie outfit!
néomí – someone new
‘someone new’ is the captivating new release from fast rising pop artist néomí, one of the singles taken from her upcoming debut album ‘somebody’s daughter’. Another similar to previous releases , soft and soothing, but her sound does start to become a tad singular. Imagine a more stubborn, faster paced, uplifting néomí… That’s what we’ll be hoping for from her debut ‘somebody’s daughter’!
The Indien – How Many Nights
‘How Many Nights’ is the soft and shimmering alternative pop release by Dutch artist The Indien. The single is taken from her upcoming debut album which is due for release this month. The single builds on a softly thumping and anthemic pop sound with her hazy and child-like vocals in its midst. A lively pop track with alternative hooks adorn The Indien’s musical catalogue, we’re looking forward to hear her upcoming debut!
Elizabeth Liddle & Billy Smith – Eyes On You
‘Eyes On You’ is Liddle’s latest release, it’s a nostalgic raging alternative pop sound with gorgeous vocal harmonies and a highlight of her musical discography so far. This is a stripped back version of a 70’s inspired collaboration debut between Elizabeth Liddle and Billy Smith, and it is a refreshingly beautiful, hazy dream pop song leaving quite the impression. With the first in a series of collaborative releases, the duo aim to send listeners back in time, and with ‘Eyes On You’ they’ve already well and truly succeeded.
