EP: War Is Over – More Than A Number

A new six track EP was released by childhood friends Cameron Young and Brycen Waitkus, who are better known as musical duo War Is Over. Their debut EP is ‘More Than A Number’, a cumulation of warm alternative folk pop songs with soft vocals and subtly festive soundscapes.

Their hazy and subtle sound is a refreshing one, unhurried and rather charming, the EPs title track is also the opener of the piece of art that counts just over twenty minutes. They’re a bit of a mystery, the musical duo, as there is not much to read about them nor their EP, they’ll let the music speak for itself.

The Americana and folk-infused sounds they’ve created are mostly guitar-driven and pushed forward by warm and angelic vocal harmonies. Their EP was years in the making which shows in their refined and confident songs. The EP is a joint effort and brings warm guitar sounds, comfortable and comforting soundscapes and story telling tracks a la Mumford & Sons and Kaleo.

Poppy in its own right, yet mostly inspired by folk, the songs on the EP are driven by shimmering guitar lines which is the case on ‘Ironbound’, heart-wrenching lyricism shines brightly on ‘Worth the Wait’, ‘The Wire’ adds a more uplifting and faster paced soundscape to the mix, ‘Meet You by the Sea’ plays with the addition of natural sounds such as softly swaying waves and the sound of the birds, and closing track ‘When the Nighttime…’ brings more mesmerising vocal harmonies!

There’s something for us all on the debut EP that was released by War Is Over, and hopefully war will indeed soon be over…
