The LaFontaines – Business As Usual

It’s been fifteen years since their inception in Motherwell Scotland, yet The LaFontaines are still just as relevant. The band have returned and solidified their position in the UK music scene with the release of single and video ‘Business As Usual’ and the announcement of their new album.

Combining soaring vocals and powerful punches, spoken vocals and atmospheric soundscapes, the rock band truly know how to hold a space. They sound as recognisable as ever thanks to singer Kerr’s powerful voice, and thumping drum rolls add extra power to their sound. Across their career they have performed all across the globe with festival highlights including TRNSMT and VERY TV in Bangkok. They toured with the likes of Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda, Don Broco, and Deaf Havana and are putting me to shame… I should have really been a fan much earlier on!

‘Business As Usual’ is a gut-punching rock track thundering through my speakers from the very first tones until its quite abrupt outro. The band never truly went away, but did have a short break, and it seems to have done them a world of good. For Kerr, the album’s title track “is the song that saved the band. Just as I was about to down tools, Jamie sent me the chorus. I hadn’t written anything since the pandemic, but this song seemed to finish itself. It was the catalyst for the full album. It’s The LaFontaines summed up in 3:23 seconds. Unique, bold, and Scottish.”

The band’s personality, charm, and charisma shines through in the music they put out and coupled with their unique blend of influences, they have well and truly earned their dedicated and loyal fanbase, of which I now count myself a part as well.
