EP: The Haunt – Do Not Resuscitate

If you like your music loud, powerful, and slightly daunting, The Haunt is the band for you. The Florida-based alternative rock band just released their hard-hitting EP ‘Do Not Resuscitate’ and it is an incredible piece of guitar-driven musical violence.

The Haunt is surprisingly made up of just two people, siblings Anastasia Grace Haunt and Maxamillion Haunt. The two have created a driving EP made up of six tracks all vulnerable yet heavy and undeniably seductive. Think bands such as YONAKA and Hands Off Gretel, it’s a filthy rock sound with powerful vocals and poignant lyrics. ‘FML’ is the perfect opener of an EP we’re already addicted to.

“We took more of a rock-forward approach on this EP,” Max said about ‘Do Not Resuscitate’. “We’ve fully stepped into this space. We’re bringing in our influences of industrial and pop, but we really aimed to write rock songs first and make them even more special. The song writing has matured. We’re coming into exactly the world and style of music we wanted to make.”

We hear those anthemic pop influences on ‘Little Like Hell’, the track is incredibly catchy and made up of short chapters that make it an intriguing listen from start till finish. A soaring and heart-wrenching sound hits on ‘I Don’t Like The Quiet’, and ‘Damage’ hints at influences taken from electronic pop and rock. ‘Morally Incompetent’ is a slightly slower track then the others and burns like hellfire, grand and punching, like all the others it’s sweetly unapologetic. ‘On My Grave’ truly ties together the other tracks on the EP with its soft and emotive hints at pop and rock, it truly shows the extent of the duos musical talents.

The Haunt creatively lean on their own quiet lifelong bond, pushing to elevate each other to break down walls. “Our sibling mind-reading is a big factor in how we work together,” Max observes. “I can understand what Anastasia wants to communicate musically, because we’ve been living in the same house since she was born and creating music together since she was 11. There’s nothing like our connection.” And through that connection they’ve created a sound that connects with their listeners, fans, old and new.
