Charlie Bennett – Sky High

‘Sky High’ is the new bedroom indie pop release from Birmingham-based artist Charlie Bennett and it’s a subtly soothing, hazy alternative release utilising soft vocals and a warm, thumping soundscape.

‘Sky High’ slowly builds its soundscape towards an undeniably catchy chorus, with soft as feathers vocals and a warm, colourful soundscape the artist brings a refined palette of bedroom pop sounds to our ears and we’re here for it. The single was released on indie label Young Poet and was inspired by the likes of Dayglow, Beabadoobee and Oscar Lang. Bennett was drawn to his genre due to its inclusive and anti-gatekeeping nature and brings a new layer of personality and creativity to the bedroom pop tracks of today.

Charlie wrote ‘Sky High’ while watching films ‘Sing Street’ and ‘Begin Again’ around the time he was moving house, “I wanted to write a song that could fit into one of those movies”, and he succeeded at that. The song talks about savouring childhood friendships, “the feeling of sleepovers and the conversations you have when you should be asleep. It’s about the life you imagine having when you grow up – how you and your best friends will all live in the same house and go grocery shopping.” This melancholic message shines through within its melancholic feel and ‘Sky High’ as well as Charlie Bennett are rather addictive!
