Live: Indoor Pets are a live band to be reckoned with

On Wednesday evening I braved the typically English weather – it was pissing it down – for an evening of powerful rock’n’riffs on Zerox’ Shooting Gallery and had no regrets! Indoor Pets visited the north to promote their brand new album ‘Pathetic Apathetic’, supported by Manchester-based alt rock outfit Bayboards!

The evening started, as well as soaking wet, with the undeniable energy of young alternative rock outfit Bayboards who had made their way up from Manchester to capture our hearts and dance moves. Strong riffs and powerful vocals, the band gave it their all on stage and afterwards to the audience in the form of their own business cards with a QR-code to their Instagram and more information on the band’s huge upcoming hometown show at the Academy 2 in Manchester!

For a rainy midweek evening, Indoor Pets had pulled in a decent-sized crowd, especially with no local artists on the bill. Zerox’ had quickly filled up with a very eager audience that, as soon as the band played their first tones, erupted in moves that wouldn’t stop until the very end of the band’s set. The band have been releasing music for over a decade and it showed, with multiple albums to their name and a brand new one just released, they played exactly the right amount of old and new songs the audience wanted to hear and sing along to. I knew a lot more of their hits then I had anticipated, with ‘Hi’, ‘Mean Heart’, ‘Pro Procrastinator’, and new singles ‘London’, and ‘Stink Eye’ all on the set list.

The band have reinvented themselves many times over the years, and their live show represented that, this multi-faceted indie pop and alternative rock-blending band brought a wide range of songs and sounds to the stage and even performed a song acoustically. Their new album represents a heavier and fuzz-fuelled chapter of the book of Indoor Pets and they brought that heavy and unapologetic riffing sound on tour with them. With a bit of everything for everyone loving guitar-driven live bands, Indoor Pets mesmerised, energised and captivated and made me return to their first album, just to feel like I’m in my mid-twenties again.

“The world is a really NOISY place to live right now. But if you have a spare moment amongst the roar of distractions – a stream, a share, a private message of support or even a purchase – these actions are all appreciated more than you could ever imagine.” – Indoor Pets
