Album: Dan Miraldi – Ulysses

A powerful collection of alternative rock track was released by Dan Miraldi in the form of his latest album ‘Ulysses’. Ten tracks thunder on introducing the musical talent Miraldi posesses.

This thirty minute tour de force Dan Miraldi just released upon us does what he does best; delivering an unbridled love of rock and roll, unapologetically. Its title track is also the perfect opener of this collection of tracks that listen and taste like a shot of caffeine on a Tuesday morning in June. Second track ‘Bathwater’ introduces a less serious, hazy alternative rock sound with his confidently soft vocal in its midst, a favourite of ours already. On these songs he sings of chasing dreams of being in a rock band while relationships burn behind on the home front.

There is passion in these storylines, which we hear on his vocal deliveries and the deliciously sharp guitar licks that he’s composed. He puts a fresh spin on internet-dating on ‘Internet Women’, the track, as well as ‘Almost Sounds Sincere’, plays with an almost bluesy sound and brings Beatles-esque vocals harmonies. ‘Unfollow Me’ hints at a jazzy rock sound, ‘Sublime Love’ and ‘Indie Film’ plays with the sensibilities of Elvis and Alex Turner. Although we’ve been listening to Miraldi for a good few years now, ‘Ulysses’ still very much surprises and pushes the boundaries of musical genres. Influences of some of my favourite artists peek through the curtains, Miraldi has created something addictive exciting!

He knows how to pay homage while creating something that is truly his own.
