Live: The Hunna came and conquered Lincoln

Saturday night saw Watford indie-rock band The Hunna come to Lincoln for the first time while they embark on their latest UK tour. We went to The Drill, shot and reviewed the show!

Starting off the night was local band KIDDA who are known and loved in the Lincoln music scene, bringing their classic indie vibes to a packed out Drill hall. The room was already nicely filled before the band took to the stage, which is always a great indication of how the opening band will be, and they definitely started the night off right and as they were about to leave the stage Ryan from The Hunna ran on stage and gave them all a massive hug to show his appreciation for the band opening the night.

Next on the bill were a band from my home town of Grimsby, local legends MINT. As they took to the stage, the crowd definitely picked up in energy as the local scene vets controlled the fans with ease. The vibes and energy stayed high from start to finish as they paraded around the stage showcasing their talents. This could have very easily been a headline show for them with how they commanded the stage and the crowd eating out of the palm of their hands. With their last song of the night Zak took a moment to share his love and support for Palestine which of course received huge applause and as the crowd joined in with a “Free Free Palestine” chant they smashed through the final song of the night. A night I imagine the lads won’t forget for a while.

Time for the main event, the reason we all gathered at The Drill. The lights went down and on came The Hunna, to a loud roar of cheers from the crows as they opened with ‘Take A Ride (Lights, Camera, Action)’. Playing mainly songs from their first album ‘100’ and their latest ‘The Hunna’ they curated the perfect setlist, taking us on highs with big hitters such as ‘I Wanna Know’ and ‘Bonfire’ and taking us on a slower journey with ‘Sycamore Tree’ and ‘Babe, Can I Call?’.

The Hunna are one of those bands that don’t quite fit in a specific genre. They do as they want and they do it in incredible ways. The band have incredible talents and hard hitting lyrics. They will only ever get bigger and begin playing larger venues. A band I’ve only followed for a few years but will definitely go see again. The tight-nit band didn’t miss a single beat as they gave the Lincoln crowd a night to remember.
