Middle Child Syndrome is the musical moniker of Matt Mueller, the Milwaukee-based singer and songwriter who just released his debut album ‘listen to me’. The debut is a collection of craftly written indie rock tracks!
Middle Child Syndrome is a solo project showcasing that a one man band can still deliver on extensive soundscapes blending different genres and inspirations. His DIY approach brings the sounds we hear on the eleven tracks that adorn ‘listen to me’. Soft guitar tones on ‘My Dream’, a romantic Americana sound on ‘Bonnie & Me’, a colourful Texas sound on ‘Slate’, and a beautifully comforting sound on ‘Embrace Each Other’ make for a fantastic first half of ‘listen to me’.
‘A Disclaimer’ is a song subtly more uplifting and driven by Mueller’s signature dry yet soothing voice. We continue on the spirited and faster paced, energising sound on single ‘Find Your Peace’ which incorporates a world sound and it’s potentially a favourite on the album. ‘A Weezer Song’ is an almost rocking, riffing track that is the perfect and rather surprising closer of ‘listen to me’. Middle Child Syndrome has brought together a multitude of genres on his debut and showcases his musical talents, which are a joy to discover.
