Album: badsoma – kicking and screaming

A soaring five track EP was released by Los Angeles-based indie outfit badsoma. ‘kicking and screaming’ is their latest body of work, driven by haunting lyrics, soft vocals, and subtle soundscapes.

They open their EP subtly and slowly, with memorably haunting vocals and a soft, keys-driven soundscape that wonderfully supports those warm vocals. The band brings together old friends and new and formed in September 2023, since then they’ve created an indie-fusion sound that weaves together influences from pop and rock. ‘the stranger’ builds upon a carefully uplifting sound that brings a smile to my face. On ‘burn out’, female vocals take centre stage and reminisce with us about an emotional burn out, on the track we hear the raw emotion this EP is lead by most adamantly.

Strong and worldly sounds come together on ‘talk about me’ and ‘all i wanted to see’, hazy vocals leading us through its storyline. A hint of soul and jazz peak through on the EP’s closer, a tasteful dose of genre-blending is never wrong! On ‘kicking and screaming’, badsoma invite us all to join them on their journey of emotional exploration and raw and ready sounds that are unique to themselves.

With a collective commitment to authenticity and a hunger for experimentation, badsoma is poised to make their mark, one ear-worm melody and face-melting guitar solo at a time.
