Album: Michael Morell – Far From Home

Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist, producer and mix engineer Michael Morell just released a collection of noisy folk rock tracks in the form of his latest album ‘Far From Home’!

Blending noise rock with pastoral folk, psych pop and some gently devastating ballads, this album truly offers something for every kind of listener. Album-opener ‘Sunburn’ sets the tone for this eclectic selection of tracks, a dynamic soundscape opens the gate towards a passionate and thrilling musical experience. ‘Far From Home’ is a blend of past releases and a new, modern approach towards music.

Subtly theatrical, ‘Sunburn’ brings an open introduction to Morell’s sound, ‘Make a Home’ is a sweet and soft pop ballad, on ‘(Four)’ we hear pain and wondering, while ‘Not the Same’ is a heart-wrenching indie pop track about an old love finding new love. Two years after his debut, Morell’s made a promise to introduce an emotive tug-of-war between hope, wonder, weariness, and despair, a promise he’s fulfilled on ‘Far From Home’. We hear an exciting alternative rock sound and distorted soundscape on ‘Toss Me the Keys’, ‘Pack of Reds’ highlights soft vocals and a subtly thumping soundscape, catchy from the beginning until the end.

‘Night-Blooming Violet’ is the most colourful track on the album, a favourite of ours with its warm and shoegaze-y rock sound, highlighting expanding hooks and strong vocals, it’s a track truly not to miss on this album. ‘Piece of Me’ is a strong closer, eclectic, powerful, and almost perfectly collecting all different influences that have made this album into one beautiful piece! ‘Far From Home’ is a sonic exploration created to highlight the different aspects of Michael Morell’s musical aptitude.
