Nine tracks summarise what soulful alternative pop artist Eric Hirschberg is all about. His new album ‘Second Hand Smoke’ is a cumulation of passionate and confident sounds driven by stunning vocals!
‘Good Morning’ is the sentimental opener of Hirshberg’s new album, the Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter has created an exciting and warming sound that has helped him gain an ever-growing audience over the last few years. Releasing his second full length album showcases this growth and highlights his colourful sound through musical chapters. While ‘Half Way Home’ shows a guitar-driven soundscape that is hinting at influences taken from Americana, ‘Everyone Believes’ brings stunning and soft vocal harmonies into the mix.
‘Unbroken’ brings a soft ballad to the album, a welcome breather, beautifully laid back and rather dreamy, the single makes for a slight change of pace and pulls us right back into this collection of songs. ‘Goodnight, Nobody’ is the album closer and our favourite out of these nine tracks. Hirschberg’s voice sounds most like The National’s Matt Berninger’s and it is a beautifully yet subtly theatrical track that makes for an ending that leaves us longing for more. The song sums up his musical prowess; being able to create soft and honest short stories supported by well crafted and thought-through compositions that make for calculatedly beautiful songs. The experience of listening to ‘Second Hand Smoke’ is a calming one, and a rather addictive one at that!
