North east-based indie outfit Mt. Misery have recently released their new single ‘Waking Up’, it’s a hazy new indie release that offers a welcome break to a busy weekday.
They’ve created a no-nonsense and soft alternative sound that is rather refreshing and unhurried. Mt. Misery bring a less frantic sound to the scene and do so again on their latest single release. Recorded in a remote cottage on the banks of Loch Fyne in Scotland before being mixed by Ian Catt, ‘Waking Up’ showcases Mt. Misery’s new-found tendency to write short and sweet pop songs.
Stephen explains: “‘Waking Up’ existed in very rough demo form for some time, but it was always an idea I couldn’t finish (of which there are many). I picked it up again when we were writing the album, but the full writing process took upwards of a year, with the result being a little two-and-a-half minute pop song… Which upon reflection, feels a bit pathetic.” There’s no need to feel pathetic, when a song is as short as can be without being too short. The track is a simple yet soothing one that urges us to slow down for a few minutes, and simply let the music wash over us. Since that’s a daily necessity, Mt. Misery have simply offered us a way out, albeit that for just two and a half minute… Maybe an extra minute could do for the next release?
