North East based indie rock outfit The Ilfords have just released their new and punching single ‘The Demon and the Donkey’. It listens like a shot of caffeine on a grey Friday morning!
‘The Demon and the Donkey’ was originally created in a barn in the woods yet musically does not touch for a second on the rustic vibes of a wooden barn. This single is more like a shot of caffeine, a backfiring car engine, or a chain of cars beeping at an inattentive driver not noticing the traffic light has turned green. The lyrics to the single came to vocalist David at Somerton Castle in the middle of a recording session early this year. Its story is a fusion of references from David’s past mixed with a dash of fantasy.
It speaks of the art of sexual enticement, “a succubus for sure…”, a Lilin-demon from folkloric tales that appears in female form to seduce, nothing is what it seems. David elaborates; “This song is about the companion you may have had for the presence or for just a short amount of time, but they’ve taken a piece of you forever.” It’s a modern love story with a heart-wrenching twist and a delicious amount of guitar riffs, the best of both worlds!
