Music For The Misfits was fortunate enough to catch ten minutes with Kaeto who is currently on tour with The Last Dinner Party, just a week on from her new mixtape ‘Intro’.

Being my first interview I was extremely nervous, but Kaeto and her band are some of the nicest people I have met and immediately made me feel welcome. A huge thank you for relaxing my nerves.

Congratulations on the release of your new mixtape ‘Intro’ what would you say your biggest inspiration was for it?
Probably the environment it was written in, we were on a rooftop and the colours of the skyline were massively inspirational. I love writing in a place in which you can see the landscape and I feel being in places like this you open up a different part of you verses if you were closed off. I’m also really inspired by strong female artists.

How has the tour treated you so far?
It has been so fun, I thought I would cope not as well, but I haven’t felt as though I’ve needed to cope. I’m very lucky to have such a supportive group of people in my core team and having Lucia and TLDP team, It just feels ridiculously fun, easier than I was expecting it. It’s very opening and warm and nurturing.

Growing up did you have any big musical inspirations that have impacted your music now?
I was always interested from a young age, I used to go to sleep to the AIR album, I think that’s one of the biggest things that has shaped me musically, I would have been between 3 and 5 falling asleep to synthy music, for a long time I was obsessed with this sound that I didn’t know what it was (talking of synths) I didn’t know if it came from a guitar or something else, then having the revelation that it was a synth

Is that kind of why you’ve gone down a similar route with your music?
I think so, yeah it’s definitely something I love, there are certain tones that you just can’t from any other instrument. I love that sometimes me and Matty will make something sound like a synth and it isn’t, sometimes it’s my vocal or a guitar. The sound at the start of ‘Carry You’ sounds like a synth but it’s a guitar, it’s just amazing what you can do with processing to make things sound like each other.

You are living the dream now, you’re going on stage baring your all and opening up your soul and feelings to a crowd every night?
It’s something that’s difficult, but its just really powerful, I was reading a book with poems about empowered women and there is a quote which says “if you silence yourself you will never be whole as there is a part of you that is buried inside of you” It is really hard, not everyone is going to like what you do, but this tour is amazing this crowd is so stylish and nice, friendly and enthusiastic about new music, but not everyone will like what you are offering, so it can be intimidating.

If you could have written any song, which song would it be?
California soul by Marlena Shaw, it’s a fun song, or the Minnie Riperton “Les Fleurs” Its just so orchestral. What would yours be?

The Wonder Years “Dismantling Summer” the year it came out I had major surgery and it was my go to song, it was with me the entire way and has stayed with me ever since, it just holds a place in my heart.

If you could be any drink in the world, what drink would you choose?
I would be a spicy Margarita but it would taste like a sugary one but without the sugar crash hangover or a kombucha.

Some advice you would give to a young creative?
To not hold music back, put music out and keep putting it out and if you’re interested in music find your ways to do it. I felt like the industry and making music was quite inaccessible and I didn’t do it for a long time.

What are your plans for 2025?
Releasing more music and definitely some headline tours!

Your dream headline venue?
Probably Wembley, but definitely just some pub in London.
