What should have been a fun night at Lincoln’s The Engine Shed turned into a disaster with late cancellation from rock outfit The Last Dinner Party. Kaeto ended up being our headliner!
The room packed out (to the point it had a feeling of being over-sold with talks of people being crushed and passing out) everyone eagerly anticipating The Last Dinner Party to enter the stage to start a show filled with flowing ribbons, flowing dresses, big sing-a-longs and joyous moments, but as minutes pass by, people start questioning, where are the band?
After half an hour we finally receive confirmation that due to “illness” the show tonight will not go ahead and to please leave and keep hold of tickets, which was greeted with a loud echo of boos. Not the night anybody in the room wanted, but it was the night we got. Fortunately for us, we were treated with the likes of two incredible support acts.
First up being Lucia & the Best Boys for who I already had high hopes, I had never listened to them before but heard Lucia doing vocal warm-ups in the dressing room during my interview with Kaeto. An eerie feel hit the room as the lights dimmed down and on walked Lucia with the Best Boys. Her powerhouse vocals echoed through the Engine Shed during her first song “When You Dress Up”. It was a very gothic-theatrical performance from Lucia who glided her way across the stage through their seven song set. The time flew by and the crowd were mesmerised by such a powerful performance. Definitely went down as an opener to remember.
Onto what became our headline act for the night, Kaeto. Having spoken with Kaeto earlier that day, I couldn’t wait to see the performance and it certainly lived up to the hype I’d built into my head. A theatrical performance and beautiful vocals as she poured her soul into the crowd. You could see how much Kaeto was enjoying herself and how much of her raw emotion she was putting into each song she sang. Stood by the side of the stage watching the crowd react and embrace such a powerful performance, it felt as though everyone had just found one of their new favourite artists. There is so much more to come from Kaeto in the future and I cannot wait to see how far she’ll get.
