EP: Kerrin Connolly – Transitions

American singer-songwriter and pop artist Kerrin Connolly just released their genre-blending EP ‘Transitions’, which combines elements of indie, pop, and rock, and tackles what it’s like being thirty.

Their sound is a refreshingly uplifting one taking inspiration from driving indie rock tracks and soft, storytelling pop. Connolly’s powerful vocals take centre stage on all seven tracks on the EP, while driving soundscapes support the stories she tells on ‘Interim’, and ‘Fingertraps’. As an artist they push boundaries, combining unconventional household items with traditional instruments. ‘Transitions’ boasts a track list of introspective musings on growing through life’s changes.

The EP is a collection of alternative rock songs, of which ‘Talk Therapy’ is a great example, bringing us lively guitar riffs, melancholy harmonies, and thumping drums. ‘Photogenic Harmonies’ plays on a softer indie sound, with a contemplative and simple soundscape. ‘Photogenic Memory’ and ‘American Psomething’ both play on a softer sound, hints of anthems and highlighting the stresses and struggles of everyday life. Ahead of the EP’s bonus track they share another wistful guitar ballad in the form of ‘Beige Ladies’. With ‘With My Hands’ Kerrin ends their brand new EP on an uplifting note, potentially a favourite on this collection of songs with its infectious energy.

Despite ‘Transitions’ being a slight departure from their earlier work, the EP is a strong and unique collection of songs that shows Kerrin’s array of musical talents and brings a refreshing sound to our playlists!
