Midlands-based alternative punk rock outfit slumclub have brightened up our start of November with a punching rock track driven by rambling guitars, powerful vocals and a bouncing rhythm. An IDLES-like presence and strong, emotive vocals, make this an exciting listen by a band that’s now at the top of our Ones to Watch list!
Woodlot – Calm Your Nerves
A hazy and unhurried new anthem was released by Woodlot, their latest guitar driven alternative rock track is called ‘Calm Your Nerves’ and plays with some great instrumental parts and soaring vocal lines. Add a layer of vocal harmonies and you got a warm and rather calming new release that is easy on the ears, and makes for a great afternoon soundtrack!
Sophie Kilburn – Hot Minute
Wonderfully talented alternative pop artist Sophie Kilburn has released another charming anthem with ‘Hot Minute’. The songs highlights her powerful vocals and storytelling supported by a wandering soundscape that is coloured by warm compositions and subtle keys. This softly thumping track is a beautifully alternative pop track we could listen to on repeat!
Simon Taylor – Black Widow
North East-based experimental alternative folk artist Simon Taylor tries something new on his new single ‘Black Widow’. The soaring rock track comes with a powerful intro and spoken vocals. If Taylor would’ve utilised his soft voice to sing us this story we would have truly gotten hooked to this short musical story, but its riffs make up for a lot of that.
By The Waves – For The Lovers
Swaying indie soul outfit By The Waves swayed us towards them with new single ‘For The Lovers’ which is a dreamy soulful pop release driven by strong vocals and a subtle soundscape that is rather refreshing and electrifying. With hints of inspiration taken from Alex Turner and Miles Kane, this is the perfect introduction to fast rising, exciting outfit By The Waves.
Leif Vollebeck – Peace of Mind (Morning)
Leif Vollebeck offers us peace of mind on his latest single that resembles the soothing sound of Paolo Nutini. ‘Peace Of Mind (Morning)’ is a stunning piece of alternative folk pop with a wandering soundscape that makes us want to slow dance. The song is driven by a simple soundscape and powerful story telling at its midst, a great new piece of Vollebeck.
James Ollier – The Divide
Harmonious and subtly thundering, ‘The Divide’ is the latest soft pop track by James Ollier. A single made for the charts, sounding charming and with appeal for the masses, ‘The Divide’ brings soft vocals and a soft coloured soundscape, with warm harmonies and musical compositions shining brightest on Ollier’s latest charmer.
Monotronic – Looking Away
Here’s a summer’s anthem that will help us pretend we are still enjoying the warm sun on our face while enjoying the feeling of sand in-between our toes. ‘Looking Away’ is a shimmering surf pop track with storytelling vocals and some strong guitar lines. Monotronic created an eclectic soundscape including synths and show their versatility on ‘Looking Away’.
The Depression Club – Help Myself (To You)
Dutch punk rock outfit The Depression Club are back the release of this powerful rock anthem, ‘Help Myself (To You)’ is an exciting and fast paced, thundering track that rocks, rambles, shakes, and grooves. The Depression Club take their name seriously and use it as inspiration for their lyrics, although in my humble opinion, their rock is anything but depressing!
The Solarnites – Beware The Feelin’
‘Beware The Feelin” is a fast paced indie rock track with vocals and lyrics easy to remember and sing along to and comes with its own bag of energy. Bluesy vocals and a captivating intro, allowing us to completely get into the track make for a quality piece of music and a great new band to be added to our list of bands to watch!
Hollows – 2, 4, Sick
Shimmering guitar-driven rock track ‘2, 4, Sick’ is the latest by enigmatic indie outfit Hollows who’ve crafted, created, and honed their sound since their debut release. This new soaring rock track is driven by passionate vocals and echoing guitar lines and makes for a compelling new release and a strong introduction in case you’d not familiarised yourself with Hollows yet!
