Current Swell – I’m A Mess

A subtly uplifting alternative indie track was released by Current Swell just last month, ‘I’m A Mess’ is quite the anthem and our soundtrack of the current season.

The Vancouver Island-based indie outfit just brought us highly anticipated EP ‘Peacekeeper’ alongside single ‘I’m A Mess’. The track resembles the uplifting and anthemic indie sound The Vaccines colour our days with, so Current Swell is another instant favourite. The band don’t waste any time and dive straight in on this new release. It’s an exhilarating single on which they collaborated with producer Gus Van Go, “the bass tones, especially, was pure magic. It’s got this rawness, this authenticity”, is what the band said about the single and this collaboration. “He’s all about keeping the wonky freewheeling character of some of the parts.”

The band have taken a more laid back approach for the EP and this new single in particular, allowing their personal lives to shape their creative process. With several members now raising young families, they’ve embraced a casual but deeply inspired writing process. ‘Peacekeeper’ is just the first step in a larger release plan for Current Swell, with more music due to be shared in the new year. As they prepare to hit the road this spring, touring the new EP alongside fan-favourite hits, Current Swell is ready to reassert their place as one of Canada’s most cherished indie bands.
