A soulful new alternative pop rock EP was released by Brian Halloran, he opens up on ‘Four Orphans’, a collection of songs that until now never found their way into his musical catalogue!
This soft and soulful indie pop release is a collection of songs that are unhurried and comforting, with ‘The Only Thing Keeping Me Down’ being the perfect opener of the EP and its warm-hearted soundscapes! This exciting and infectious opener talks about accepting personal responsibility for Halloran’s own personal state. Second on the EP is single ‘For A Song’, on which Halloran turns up the rhythm and brings a swaying alternative pop track with his warm and charming voice, heavily inspired by one of his favourite songwriters, Dan Wilson (Semisonic).
With some delicious guitar licks and dark bluesy bass lines, Brian has created a memorable and exciting sound that shines brightly on ‘Four Orphans’. Inspired by 90’s alternative pop rock bands such as R.E.M., Counting Crows and Gin Blossoms, he has truly fused those sounds into a mix and genre of his own. A contemplative sound enters the EP on ‘Your Satellite’, slightly more straightforward then his previous releases, it’s “just a simple ode to unrequited love”.
‘Four Orphans’ truly offers something for most of us, with its energetic and powerful hooks, warm and soulful sounds, and almost theatrical ballads, on which he completely opens up to his fans old and new. ‘Spin My Wheels’ completes ‘Four Orphans’, which plays with inspiration taken from Counting Crows’ ‘Recording The Satellites’, it is a big and boisterous, charming and eclectic alternative pop rock track with a vibrant soundscape that is addictive. The song is not just Halloran’s favourite, but also ours.
These four orphans of songs make for a beautifully well-rounded EP that introduces Brian Halloran in a charming way, despite the four songs never having found their way onto one of his album, hence ‘orphans’. With their colourful and excitingly alternative sounds we are glad they finally found their way into the musical catalogue of Brian Halloran!
