CuVa Bimö has presented their first full length album kicking off our 2025 musically and with charm. ‘CB Radio’ contains eleven tracks drawing inspiration from post punk, 80’s goth and new wave, and many other genres!
The explosive American outfit have created a refreshing bland of influences that make for intriguing listens such as ‘Wasting Time’ and ‘Bad Jacket’. With powerful vocals and thundering soundscapes, the band know how to engage their listeners in a nonchalant manner, trying but not too hard. On the new album they talk about sentiments of living in the Bay Area, the realities of love, and the current histories we are witnessing day to day.
‘Post/Wall’ hints at a softer and more danceable influence that makes for an exciting listen, ‘Tango’ is the perfect example of the way the band chops and changes their songs and truly makes their listening experiences a journey. Rambling and exhilarating, CuVa Bimö are passionate and emotive, work with thrilling compositions and guitar lines, and showcase experimental vocals on ‘Crank Wave’.
We hear a dark and charming post punk sound on ‘Doom Loop’ and ‘Terra Rhyzing’ and the album’s closing chapter ‘Desert Trash’ are both powerful punk pieces that offer a wandering ferociousness which I very much enjoy on this album. On ‘CB Radio’, the band showcases their ability to create soundscapes that are made up of chapters, yet blend together with ease.
The project, and this album which was recorded by Kevin O’Connell of The Strange Ones, started out with two musicians looking for two more to form a band through Craigslist. Their love for insane guitar lines, Sonic Youth and kindred spirits bonded the four and clearly made for a connection that has made and is still making a lasting impression. CuVa Bimö have set the tone with ‘CB Radio’!
