EP: Jacob Shipley – Getting Older

‘Getting Older’ is Jacob Shipley‘s brand new EP, the folk rock artist brings a stripped back and open-hearted collection of six alternative folk songs.

Shipley writes about life, love, joy, and heartache, on his latest EP ‘Getting Older’ he brings a collection of soft and stripped back alternative folk songs with his soft voice and sweet guitar lines. He finds joy in remembering, and we remember with him on the six tracks that make up ‘Getting Older’. Its opening track, ‘Older’ sets the soft and acoustic tone for this collection of work, with ‘Kitchen Floor’ being a previously released hazy folk track with a stunning soundscape. Rather instantly hooking his listeners old and new, Shipley opens up and shares raw emotions on this new EP.

On ‘Getting Older’ we hear stories from his own emotionally complicated life with humour and a knowing smile that only hindsight can bring. We hear a faster paced, finger picking guitar sound on ‘Death of Me’, which gives the EP its depth and shows Jacob’s abilities to switch to and from the different styles that make up this EP. On ‘Kitchen Floor II’ he offers a sobering look at love lost, as it brings us back to the depths of despair. What all of these songs, as well as ‘The Painter’ and ‘If a Robot Takes My Job’ have in common is their strong elements of story telling. There is a strong focus on the emotions behind the stories they tell, through powerful vocals and colourful soundscapes.

Jacob Shipley’s music is introduced tastefully and gracefully through the collection of songs that appears on ‘Getting Older’, and shows the reason his music has been played throughout the world, as well as at historic venues. Aside from his original music, Shipley starred as John Newton in the first national tour of Amazing Grace: The Musical, and was featured in the first actor-musician production of Godspell. Without a doubt a versatile talent, his personable short stories that are guided by angelic musical compositions are what has made us a fan of Jacob Shipley.
