Not often does a title match the vibe of a song so well, but Roman Joon‘s ‘Hot Air Balloon’ is warm and comfortable and sways like the wind on a summer’s day afternoon, this is our new favourite alt indie release.
Brighton-based musician Michael Baker, who releases under the moniker of Roman Joon, just unveiled his latest single, ‘Hot Air Balloon’ is a melancholic and atmospheric, groove-infused release that drifts through the clouds like a hot air balloon. Hazy memories and sun-soaked nostalgia inspired this release that marks another step forward towards the release of Baker’s debut album, ‘Mighty Fine’.
“Written on a visit to seaside town Hastings, ‘Hot Air Balloon’ captures a fleeting, surreal moment — waking up in a van to a golden haze, looking down at the old town and sea, and watching a blimp lazily follow the shoreline. The song embodies the sleepy, sepia-toned charm of that day: spontaneous conversations, coffees at The Dunes, thoughts of a late swim, and the beauty of simple observations, like “there’s sand in my shoe, so bad news.”
Smelling of the fresh sea air and listening like the waves hitting the shore, ‘Hot Air Balloon’ is a refreshing breath of fresh air on what is for most a busy work day. Add a groove, some washed-out horns, glitchy samples and driving guitar licks and you’ve got the stunning new release Roman Joon shared with the world.
