Youth Sector have been on our radar for a while due to their ridiculously infectious indie rock anthems, ‘Buy For Less’ is another example of one of those anthems and proof it is very much possible to draw from an endless well of refined riffs, at least for Youth Sector.
With ‘Buy For Less’ the Brighton-born quintet lean into sensory overload, which is what they’ve become known for, and expertly balance astute political observations with musical indie adventures. Theirs is an unpredictable energy which makes every single track a surprise of a rollercoaster, ‘Buy For Less’ is slightly less of a surprise that its lyrical contents make for than up for. They are upbeat and full of energy, which is what they wrap around unwavering truths and the heartache that is our modern day society.
‘Buy For Less’ is part of the upcoming debut album, ‘Pop Culture’, on which the band say; “It’s a body of work which for a long time seemed out of our reach. It’s the culmination of several years of development and is the vehicle for which we have been saving the best material we’ve ever written.” On ‘Pop Culture’ they explore cultural and political issues and wrap them in strong grooves and sing-along choruses. Those of us that have experienced Youth Sector live know that they are a constant surprise filled with explosive energy and an addictive one at that.
The album is due to arrive in September and the band will be playing a host of festivals and will be supporting Kaiser Chiefs this summer with a big UK headline tour to follow in October. After their undeniably fun headline show at Newcastle’s The Grove, we can’t wait to see them return to the north east at Stockton’s KU!
