FAUN – Lady Isobel

Pagan Folk pioneers FAUN return with new single ‘Lady Isobel’, a delicately crafted ballad that stays true to their roots in wise-worldly music while offering a timeless, poetic charm.

The single, taken from their forthcoming album ‘HEX’ (released via Pagan Folk Records), is built around a gentle, guitar-driven arrangement that softly sways and wanders like a whispered folktale in motion. At the heart of the track is vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Oliver Satyr, whose warm, expressive voice lends gravity to the song’s lyrical subject: a mysterious woman seemingly trapped in the “tower of her loneliness”.

Inspired by Satyr’s own poetry, the lyrics evoke a dreamlike solitude, and the song’s instrumentation echoes this emotional terrain with beautifully warm flute melodies, subtle rhythms, and ambient textures. ‘Lady Isobel’ feels both intimate and otherworldly’. Satyr notes that the lute-style guitar parts pay homage to folk legends like Nick Drake and Bert Jansch. However, ‘Lady Isobel’ remains uniquely FAUN, a band long known for conjuring immersive worlds where medieval textures, natural mysticism, and genre-defying instrumentation blend seamlessly.

With this single, FAUN, a band I have known for over a decade, continue to demonstrate their mastery of moody folk sounds and mesmerising soundscapes, creating short stories that connect me to the ancient and eternal, reconnecting me with my Pagan roots. ‘HEX’ will undoubtedly be another spellbinding string to their musical bow once released in September. Celebrating the album, the band will be touring Europe and the UK, with shows in France, Germany, and the Netherlands to name a few.
