We Are All Fossils – Ocean Blue

Deist’s We Are All Fossils regularly shows off his song writing skills and does so again on stunning alternative pop release ‘Ocean Blue’. It rises and tumbles like the tides and gets beautifully told by his angelic voice.

This emotive indie folk release is where the ocean meets memory, ‘Ocean Blue’s building blocks are heartfelt lyrics and a warm, vibrant and guitar-driven soundscape. The song speaks about holding on even when you know you should let go, “it paints the picture of rushing to the sea, hoping to find what you know to be lost. The ocean feels endless, always moving… A continuum of live but it also carries things away. That push and pull of the tides runs through this song, admitting the raw truth; I still need you.”

Whichever love it is you lost, Deist has written about it, not just to tell a story, but as a way of coping with this lost. ‘Ocean Blue’ is an emotional musical journey, and made me remember those I wish would have still been earthside with me. This single listens like a plea, begging for someone to come back with the tides, to somehow land at the shore again. Although heart-wrenching, ‘Ocean Blue’ listens like a comfort blanket as I realise we all go through these same motions, and despite struggles, never have to go through them alone.
