EP: Missing Pet – Moon Rules

‘Moon Rules’ is a genre-blending collection of tracks from the perspective of Toronto’s Adam Platek who’s better known as Missing Pet. Five tracks surprise from start till finish.

Soaring and emotive EP-opener ‘Broad Daylight’ sets the tone for a moving collection of electropop fused with synth pop and indie rock. Platek writes for the heartbroken, the hopeful, and the nocturnal and brings all inspirations he’s taken from the day-to-day to life through subtle and softly thumping soundscapes that seamlessly wonderfully support the vocals that tell the stories that make ‘Moon Rules’ such a powerful collection.

We hear classic synthpop influences on ‘Secret Admirer’ and strong indie rock vibes on ‘Floodgates’ which give the EP its colour and vibrance. With every listen a new elements reveals itself, like puzzle pieces falling into place. Missing Pet has created a musical rollercoaster, an emotional ride that is both deeply personal and mysteriously otherworldly. He’s blended the influences that made my childhood, from The Cure to Pixies, and made them his own.

At the start of this year, Adam’s life changed after a near-death cycling accident, something saved him and he’s convinced that a cosmic divinity called him back to earth. Now, feeling reborn and illuminated, Adam began to notice life moving in cycles, just like phases of the moon. “You’re always becoming something new.” He’s showing a new version of himself on ‘Moon Rules’, and it’s an intriguing journey to join him on. “‘Moon Rules’ invites you to sit with the darkness, sing through the phases, and believe in the beauty of return.”
