ida – Asta

A beautifully introspective new release introduces ida, who brings a Swift-esque story telling pop song with ‘Asta’. It is the bright side of her childhood, melodic and light, acoustic and personal, and hopefully will comfort many girls.

“Girls can be ruthless if you don’t fit in. I didn’t fit in anywhere. I had a pretty miserable childhood, my mother died when I was three and I was shunted around a few different countries.” Her music is about growing up and takes us on a journey through friendship, love, loss and fitting in. She’s created a soft sound that translates the feeling of loneliness within friendship, brings reflective and poetic lyrics and subtle soundscapes that wonderfully dress her angelic voice.

Despite sounding soft and light-hearted, darkness hides behind ida’s music. “Asta was my best friend for a while and I’m not exaggerating to say I might have jumped under a bus if she hadn’t been there. The song is a personal thank you to Asta, it is the bright side of my childhood.” She doesn’t beat around the bush, not on ‘Asta’, not on any of the songs on the album. Co-creator Vid helped her to peel back the musical layers of her being, and magic came from it.

Danish Scottish indie artist ida sang and wrote in her bedroom for years ahead of meeting veteran Celtic guitarist Vid Weeks at a café on Tottenham Court Road, as soon as they met and shared their art with each other they started writing and creating their first album. ‘Like Me’ is due for release this month and was inspired by artists such as Olivia Rodrigo, Nina Nesbitt and Gabrielle Aplin.
