Brighton and South London duo CATBEAR made their return with the release of single ‘Darkness’, a soft darkwave gem that pulses with emotion and atmosphere.
Driven by deep, heartbeat-like percussion and shimmering layers of synths, ‘Darkness’ feels like the soundtrack to a lonely late-night drive through neon-lit streets. Its hazy, angelic vocals hover between fragility and power, building towards a chorus that’s as cathartic as it is haunting. Lyrically, it explores the beauty found in surrender, “take another look into the darkness, you will find me out there”, capturing both isolation and the strange comfort that can be found within it.
Produced by Zoe Konez in her home studio, the track carries a raw intimacy beneath its glossy surface. Every note feels intentional, infused with reflection and quiet resilience. ‘Darkness’ plays with cinematic elements and hints at influences taken from The Cure and Drive. As CATBEAR gear up for the release of their upcoming album ‘For Now, For Ever’, ‘Darkness’ stands as a stunning preview of what’s to come; a dark, shimmering release that finds light in the spaces between heartbreak and hope.
