The Overjoyed – Don’t Listen

Those of us that longed for another alternative rock anthem to shout along to, The Overjoyed have created one titled ‘Don’t Listen’. Thundering on unapologetically this track is what landed the band on our radar not to move away from it anytime soon!

The punk rock outfit followed a Green Day support with the release of ‘Don’t Listen’ and it’ll undoubtedly have them continue this line of success with their insolently punching sound. Vocalist Leo Overjoyed wrote the song about the terrifying moment when you confront your own demons, and mimics the headspace they were in when they wrote it. “This song is pure instinct and we didn’t overthink this one. Punk energy, power pop hooks, and a lot of emotion packed into two and a half minutes. ‘Don’t Listen!’ is what happens when you stop filtering your thoughts and let the truth come out loud.”

Combining those power pop hooks with a DIY aesthetic and frantic drum rolls, all stewed forward by similarly frantic vocals makes for a gritty yet polished piece of knock-out punk. The track opens the door to a new chapter for the band, one that builds on the dirtier, mid-tempo power-pop direction they hinted at on a previous release. It’s also allowed for the band to collaborate more among members, who are now all contributing more equally, making ‘Don’t Listen’ the first of a more faceted sound!
