American artist Becky Raisman just released her captivating EP ‘Earth Goddesses’, embodying strength, positivity, and empowerment, we talked to her about her EP, inspirations, hopes, and dreams!
Hi! Could you introduce yourself, your genre, and your musical influences?
“I’m Becky Raisman, im a Columbia college Chicago graduate Class of 2007. I sing and play keyboard. I like Chappell Roan, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, anything 60s-90s. I’m an 80s child and 90s teen so I love 90s alternative. I also listen to this indie LGBT band called the Crane Wives.”
What inspired you to start making music and what inspires you to keep going?
“I’ve been singing a long time. I went to Columbia College Chicago loved it! I collaborated with other people on originals. I keep going because I love it. I used to do open mics, singing contests, and I love karaoke. I’ve been playing in the adult band at School of Rock in Mount Pleasant, SC.”
Where do you, in general, get inspiration for your music and song-writing?
“I listen to other artists, read, I’ll go out see something and get inspired. I get these ideas in my head. I took a one on one beat-making class on my Ableton Move, I have a bunch of Chappell Roan style beats, Sabrina Carpenter and Devon Cole. I’ve taken lots of song writing classes online, I’ve had voice lessons for years, I learned the keyboard in college autumn of 2004 but started taking lessons in 2015.”
Who would you like to work with in the near future and where would you like to perform in the next three years?
“I would love to work with Chappell Roan, Devon Cole, Lady Gaga or even Taylor Swift, or any LGBT artist. I would love to work with producer Dan Nigro, Rick Rubin, Max Martin and legend songwriter Diane Warren, and Dolly Parton. I hope to open for these artists one day. It will happen.”
Which musical achievements are you most proud of?
“Getting my songs on the radio, being in music blogs, being in karaoke contests, music contests, having fans come up to me telling me how much they love my songs and how I am inspiration to them. Getting my degree from Columbia College Chicago, it took me seven years to get that degree. Releasing five EPs, two singles and will be starting my sixth EP, and I did four podcast interviews!”
What do you hope to achieve by releasing music with followers old and new?
“With my sixth EP I hope that more and more people will listen, maybe win a Grammy, perform at the Super Bowl! I will be starting my sixth EP, do some gigs, and play in my band at School of Rock in Mount Pleasant, SC. I hope to collaborate with LGBT artists, my songs to go viral and just dominate the music scene. Just taking it to the next level.”
Aside from music, what are some of your hobbies and interests, we’d love to know more about you as a person!
“I love to go shopping, cats, read, go out, watch sports, karaoke, just do fun things.”
