And Also The Trees released their sixteenth album ‘The Devil’s Door’ last Friday. With this album the band closes their trilogy which started with ‘The Bone Carver’ and ‘Mother-Of-Pearl Moon’.
And Also The Trees, the postpunk pioneers from Worcestershire, shifted with this set of records more and more to a cinematic, poetic and jazz-influenced storytelling sound. When we spoke with singer Simon Huw Jones in 2022 about the release of ‘The Bone Carver’ he told us that it took incredibly long to create that album, almost three years. It must have inspired them a lot, cause now three years later ‘The Devil’s Door’ sees the light of day.
With opener ‘The Silver Key’ we are right back in the atmosphere that And Also The Trees created with their two predecessors. When listening to the songs and trying to figure out the meaning of these mesmerising stories it is not hard to even hear beautiful and perhaps frightening stories in the instrumentals ‘Rooftop’ and ‘Beginning Of The End’. Both songs fit perfectly within the rest of the musical story.
With ‘Shared Fate’ this three year journey comes to a beautiful end. ‘The Devil’s Door’ is a perfect album for a lazy Sunday afternoon or late at night with a good glass of wine. And Also The Trees will be touring through Belgium, France and Greece this spring. In July they will join The Cure as special guests during their three concerts in Nimes, France.
