Pop rock artist and song writer Brandon Watson is known for his debut ‘Moment’ and award-winning short film, his project ‘House of Mirrors’ explores mental health through powerful lyrics and now he’s back with the release of ‘Watch Me Work’, an energetic anthem of determination and self-empowerment. Time to get to know the artist behind the music!
Hi! Could you introduce yourself, your genre, and your musical influences?
“My name is Brandon Watson. I’m a husband, father and recording artist and songwriter based in Nashville, Tennessee, originally from Texas. My sound blends elements of pop, rock, indie, and alternative with strong storytelling at the centre. A lot of my music sits in that space where cinematic pop production meets emotional, guitar-driven song writing. Some of my biggest influences growing up in the church in South Texas, were artists like John Mayer, Eric Clapton, and B.B. King on the guitar side, along with modern artists like NF, Twenty One Pilots, and OneRepublic, MuteMath! Those guys who bring strong storytelling and powerful live energy. Those influences really shaped how I approach writing and performing music.”
What inspired you to start making music and what inspires you to keep going?
“Music started in church for me. My parents were pastors, so I grew up around music my whole life and started playing drums at nine years old before eventually learning guitar and leading worship as a teenager.
That environment showed me early on how powerful music can be. It can connect people, tell stories, and create moments that really impact someone’s life. What keeps me going today is that same purpose, writing songs that are honest and that people can connect with emotionally.”
Where do you, in general, get inspiration for your music and songwriting?
“Most of my songs come from real-life experiences and conversations. I’m very much a topical writer. When an idea hits, I can usually visualize the entire story or emotion behind it, and that becomes the foundation for the song. Sometimes the inspiration comes from personal struggles, sometimes from relationships, and other times from the bigger themes of growth and identity that everyone experiences.”
Where did you get the inspiration for your latest release and what do you hope people will take from the song?
“My recent releases continue to reflect different seasons of life and growth. Songs like Watch Me Work are about perseverance and proving what’s possible through dedication, while other songs I’ve written explore themes like love, mental health, and personal transformation. For example, songs like Hold Your Breath came from a very real season I walked through with my wife before we go married. I was dealing with fear and anxiety and learning to move forward despite uncertainty. What I hope listeners take away from my music is that they’re not alone in what they’re facing and that there’s always a way forward.”
Which musical achievements so far are you most proud of so far?
“One of the things I’m most proud of is building my career independently for many years while continuing to grow as an artist and songwriter. That journey eventually led to new partnerships with teams like Hitmint Music and OML Sync, which has helped expand opportunities for my music globally. Releasing projects like my EP Too Gar Gone and seeing the music connect with listeners around the world has been incredibly rewarding as well.”
What do you hope to achieve by releasing music with followers old and new?
“My goal is to create music that people genuinely connect with. Whether someone has been following my journey for years or is just discovering my music today, I want the songs to resonate emotionally and feel authentic. At the end of the day, great music builds community, and that’s something I’m always striving to create with my listeners.”
What are your plans for the upcoming year and what are some of your dreams for the future?
“This year is really about continuing to release strong music and expanding the reach of what I’m doing. I’m focused on writing new songs, collaborating with great creatives, and finding new ways to get the music in front of people, whether that’s through streaming platforms, sync placements in film and television, or live performances.”
How do you hope to achieve them and are there any specific things you are working on to make them come true?
“Consistency is everything. I’m constantly writing, producing, and developing new material while working closely with my team on the business side of things. The goal is always to keep improving the craft while also building the right relationships in the industry that help the music reach the audiences it’s meant for.”
What is, aside from music, something you would like your listeners and fans to know about you?
“Faith and family are huge parts of my life and they influence everything I do. Growing up in church and spending years serving in ministry shaped the perspective I bring into my music and the messages I want my songs to carry.”
Give us your best sales pitch; why should people go and listen to your music right now?
“If you enjoy music that blends emotional storytelling with modern pop and rock production, then I think you’ll find something in my catalogue that resonates with you. My goal has always been to make music that’s honest and meaningful, songs that people can turn to whether they’re celebrating something great in life or working through a difficult season.”
