RIVER bring us a mesmerising, soothing and compelling new release with ‘Dance in the Darkness’. While they softly chant “you’re the light I feel”, do we feel their light and the softness of this smooth alternative pop song with a hint of indie and a touch of folk. It is the hazy vocals and vocals harmonies that come together like a well-rehearsed choir. The simplistic, shimmering soundscape give the vocals some subtle support and it makes this new single an incredibly memorable one.
While being a steadily-paced, not very fast paced, track, the single is still a very catchy piece of power pop. The Hamburg-based, California-bred are obviously well matched and are gearing up for the release of their forthcoming album, which is due for release in early 2022. If the album showcases a similar sound to ‘Dance in the Darkness’, then we’ll need it on vinyl!
