Le Fichu – Gigaro

For a moment I thought I was listening to Alex Turner’s sultry voice, when I realised it was Le Fichu who just released my new favourite rocking summer anthem, ‘Gigaro’. The song was named after a beach in South France and sounds just as beachy as its title assumes.

“This place, the French culture, the French food and the people there inspired and grounded me so incredibly that I was able to forget covid completely for a short time and thought I was in a dream. After the holiday, the bitter everyday life and reality caught up with me again. An unbelievably crazy time in which I would much rather drive towards the sun in the south of France without any restrictions – even outside covid.”

This rather hazy rock sound translates the ever relaxing feeling of the salty sea air filling your lungs, and messing up your locks. This subtle guitar-driven soundscape and these grounding vocals are very similar to what Turner and Kane made as The Last Shadow Puppets and it’s a sound I’ve been missing from the scene since the two stopped releasing music as TLSP. ‘Gigaro’ adds a layer of defiance and stubbornness, as well as openness and honesty, and it’s a refreshing mix of sounds and feelings that I wouldn’t mind listening to again and again!
